Successful school days start with a healthy breakfast.
School Breakfast Programs provide the opportunity for students to receive a nutrient-rich, balanced meal that will get their day started off right! Breakfast helps students concentrate, behave, and learn better. Students who eat breakfast every morning score 17.5% higher on standardized math tests than those that don’t start the day off with a healthy meal. Many schools across Kansas are taking breakfast out of the cafeteria and into the classroom with positive results. Are you working to move to a breakfast in the classroom or grab and go model? Resources and success stories are available from SNA, KSDE Child Nutrition & Wellness and Midwest Dairy Council to help you overcome the challenges you may face when moving breakfast outside of the cafeteria. Take a moment to watch Midwest Dairy Council’s Breakfast in the Classroom video below featuring a typical morning for a family and how parents appreciate school breakfast offered in the classroom. Your next step? Start planning how you can make this a reality for your students and schools.
Through Partners for Breakfast in the Classroom, grant funds are available to high-need school districts to cover some up-front costs associated with implementing an alternative breakfast model. Learn more at : http://www.breakfastintheclassroom.org.
